ELEMENTS of the Meycauayan City Police Station arrested a 24-year-old man for raping a Grade 7 student the other day in the said city.

Acting Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat identified the suspect as Richard Gumatay, 24, single, jobless, of C. Rivera St., Bgy. Pandayan, Meycauayan City.

Reports said the suspect was arrested at around 4 p.m. in Bgy. Camalig, Meycauayan City.

Accordingly, the suspect dragged the victim, Yoko (not her real name), 12, to a vacant lot and started touching the latter’s private parts.

The suspect allegedly punched the victim’s stomach and molested her but the latter tried to fight back and shouted for help which called the attention of a passerby, identified as Ian Muñoz Mate.

Mate came to the rescue of the victim,  prompting the suspect to run away but was cornered by bystanders in the area. He was turned over to responding policemen.

Recovered from the suspect was a fan knife he used to threaten the victim.
Charges of rape and child abuse and violation of the Omnibus Election Code were filed against the suspect.
