Gang member killed in Lucena shootout

LUCENA City --A suspected members of an organized crime group operating in the city was killed in a
shootout with police officers during a search operation in Bgy. Dalahican here on Saturday.

City police officer-in-charge Supt. Reynaldo Maclang identified the fatality as  Danny Medes,
alias “Danny Pingkaw” of Purok 3.
    
Maclang said the police had a search warrant issued by San Pablo City Regional Trial Court
Branch 29-32 Judge Agripino Morga.
    
Maclang said when Medes saw the approaching cops, he fired shots at them prompting the lawmen
to retaliate causing his death.
    
Members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives headed by Supt. Zaide Abrera found the .38
revolver allegedly used by the suspect, four fired cartridge cases, a fired bullet and a deformed
slug.
    
Maclang said Medes was one of remnants of the dreaded Talag gang engaged in illegal drug
trade, robbery and gun-for-hire activities.
    
Police record showed that on March 28 and 29, 2015, the group suffered a major a setback after
most of its members were arrested by elements of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-
Quezon, then headed by Chief Insp. Alvin Consolacion, in two separate raids.
    
The raids in Bgy. Marketview had yielded almost P1  million worth of shabu, drug
paraphernalia, three loose firearms and assorted bullets.
    
Local plice said the shootout was not a rubout but an official operation.
