STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija -- A cockfight gaffer (mananari) was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding assailants on his way home here last Monday.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Antonio C. Yarra identified the slain victim as Rolando Efondo, 57, married, of Sitio Batangas, Bgy. Soledad, this town.
He was driving his service motorcycle when two unidentified men riding an unknown type of motorcycle attacked him from behind upon reaching Sitio Angeles at 5 p.m.
Yarra said the victim just came out of the Sta. Rosa Cockpit Arena where he worked as a gaffer when the shooting occurred.
He said residents near the crime scene heard five gunshots rang out before they saw the victim slumped face down along the irrigation canal with his motorcycle.
Witnesses said the two suspects then drove towards the direction of Fort Magsaysay after the incident.
Recovered at the crime scene were three fired cartridges for cal. .45 pistol.
The victim’s body was brought to the MB Buenaventura Funeral parlor for autopsy.
Police are still clueless about the motive behind the killing.
