NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office chief, Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday commended the Eastern Police District for its aggressive anti-crime operations in the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Marikina and San Juan which have resulted in a significant reduction in all eight focused crimes in the area as well as the confiscation of over P700,000 worth of shabu and marijuana this week alone.

The NCRPO chief lauded Chief Superintendent Bernabe M. Balba for the all-out effort of his men to ensure peace and order in the EPD jurisdiction particularly now that the Christmas and New Year holidays and shopping sprees are in the offing.

This week, EPD agents arrested 161 persons wanted for various criminal offenses and apprehended 6,340 violators of different city ordinances , 5,508 of them ordered to pay fines while 832 others were given stern warning they will be penalized on second offense.

“These operations are in consonance with the anti-crime preparation and prevention programs of the EPD to suppress crimes specifically now that we are on the ‘Ber’ months when criminals prey on shoppers and the rest of the public. We also want to help erase perceptions that crimes usually go up during the period,” Balba, a member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Maringal’ Class of 1988 said.

Balba said their anti-crime operations this week resulted in the confiscation of 179 heat-sealed plastic sachets and three sachets containing suspected shabu and dried marijuana leaves valued at P716,000.

He said 161 persons were arrested during service of search warrants for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, buy-bust operations, checkpoints and interdiction operations.
