SAN Antonio, Nueva Ecija -- A policeman and a suspected kidnapper-rapist were killed in a gunfight when the latter fought off responding operatives trying to rescue his live-in partner, whom he abducted and made a sex slave in a farmhouse in this town last Tuesday afternoon.
Provincial police director Senior Supt. Antonio C. Yarra identified the slain lawman as PO3 Marlon Francisco, assigned with the Sta. Rosa police, and the suspect as Aldy Mendez, 41, with aliases Allan, Mark, Mak-Mak dela Cruz, a native of Kalibo, Aklan, of Bgy. Buliran, this town.
Yarra said the suspect went into hiding with his live-in partner Daiselyn Popes whom he forcibly abducted and allegedly made a sex slave in a farmhouse owned by Pedro Sandoval Jr. in Bgy. Buliran.
He said he immediately organized a police team to rescue the abducted victim upon learning that he was hiding in said area.
However, upon initial approach at his hideout, the responding lawmen were greeted with gunfire as the suspect, who was armed with a cal. .45 pistol immediately fired at them, hitting Francisco, who was declared dead on arrival at Cabiao General Hospital.
Yarra said the suspect died on the spot while the abducted victim was rescued inside the farmhouse.
He said the rescued abducted woman was discovered tied with metal chain in the neck and leg.
Recovered at the scene were a cal. .45 pistol with magazine loaded with six bullets, a jungle bolo with a holster sling, a magazine for cal. .45 loaded with seven bullets, a blue coin pouch containing three plastic sachets of suspected shabu, 13 live ammunition for cal. .45, a cal. 9mm pistol owned by Francisco with magazine loaded with eight bullets, 12 fired cartridge cases for cal. 9mm, an unfired bullet for 9mm, three fired cartridge cases for cal. .45, a fired cartridge case for cal. 5.56, three deformed slugs for cal. .45 and a deformed slug for cal. 9mm.
Yarra said the suspect was involved in the shooting of Ricky Agustin last May 16 in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija, where the victim sustained a leg wound.
