Driver dies, several injured in Batangas 5-vehicle collisions

SAN Jose, Batangas -- Police on Monday reported the death of a 24-year-old driver and injuries to several passengers in a five-vehicle collision along the provincial road in Bgy. Pinagtung-ulan, here, at 12:30 a.m.

The fatality was identified by San Jose Municipal Police Station investigator PO2 Jose F. Ferranco as Mark Anthony Ona, single, of Bgy. Pinagtung-ulan.

Ferranco’s initial investigation showed that at about 11:30 p.m. on December 31, a Suzuki Raider 150 (IA6411 ND) registered to Paul Uy and driven by Ona was traversing along the barangay road towards Lipa City when it accidentally collided with a Rusi 150 motorcycle with sidecar (2698WT) driven by Dan Raz Mayo, 47, married, with passengers onboard identified as Jaime Raz Oseña, 50, married, jobless, and Romulo Madraso, 24, both of Bgy. Pinagtung-ulan, while turning left in Bgy. Balagtasin 2nd.

Due to the strong impact, Ona was injured and became unconscious. Ona boarded a barangay patrol vehicle (SHX-503) driven by Jojie Nakamura Andal, 25, with passenger onboard identified as Norven Sandoval Umali, 33, married, jobless; Restie Sandoval Umali, single, jobless; Richard Sandoval Umali, 26, single, jobless; Milo Marasigan Flores, 25, single, jobless, all residents of Bgy Pinagtung-ulan heading to the hospital.

The patrol vehicle was traversing along the national highway in Banay Banay 2nd when suddenly the vehicle went out of control, hitting the rear of a Hyundai van (WML-921) registered to Lourdes Oriola which was parked unattended on the road shoulder.
The patrol vehicle also hit the steel gate and a Rusi Swish motorcycle without plate number registered to Rosalie Orbino which also parked along the road.
The unconscious victim was transferred to another vehicle and rushed him to San Jose District Hospital where he was pronounced dead by attending physician Dra. Lorena Villanueva.
Mayo was brought to the Lipa Mediatrix Medical Center and his passenger, Romulo Madraso, was brought to Metro San Jose Medical Center while Andal and passengers were all taken to San Jose District Hospital.
