Crime group leader, 6 others arrested

CAMP Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) director Chief Supt. Rolando Z. Nana yesterday announced that the leader and two members of two newly-identified criminal groups, including four gun holders, were simultaneously arrested.

Chief Supt. Nana said the new criminal groups involved in land grabbing and “gun running” activities operating in the municipality of Quezon, Isabela and Kalinga were arrested recently for violation of RA 10591, otherwise known as “the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act of 2013 by joint Intelligence personnel of PRO-COR, CIDG RFU2, Isabela PFU, Isabela PPO and RIU-14 PNP IG.

The leader of the “Abenoja Group”, identified as Joel Ganado Abenoja, a.k.a. “Boy”, 40, farmer, was nabbed in his residence in Bgy. Callangigan, Quezon, Isabela. Confiscated from his possession is a fragmentation hand grenade.

Members of the “Seguncia Group”, identified as Bacuyag Cawas, 52, and Arsenio Candelario Antonio, 66, both farmers, of Pinagan, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga, were captured in Bgy. Estrada, Quezon, Isabela.

Confiscated were an M-16 Colt AR 15 rifle, an  M-14 US Springfield rifle, 312 live ammunition for M-16, M14 rifle and shotgun; 16 magazines for M-16 and M-14 rifle, two improvised shotgun, two black bonnets, an upper garment camouflage army uniform and a tactical pants.

During simultaneous implementations of search warrants against loose firearm, four gun holders were also separately nabbed in Mt. Province and Abra.

Arrested were Gabriel Wansi Edduba, Edward Tabbagon Ganggangan, and Walter Tabbagon Ganggangan by joint personnel of Paracelis Municipal Police Station, Intelligence personnel of Mt. Province PPO, RIU14 and CIDG, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) on the afternoon of Oct. 14, 2018 in their respective residences in Sitio Addang, Bunot, Paracelis, Mt. Province.

Confiscated were a shotgun, a Carbine (M2); a 12-gauge shotgun, a cal. .22 rifle, an improvised shotgun, all with no serial numbers; a cal. .22 rifle, 222 assorted live ammunition, and five magazines for cal. 30 and M-16 rifle.

During the operation, 118 assorted live ammunitions, 19 assorted magazines for M-16 and M-14 and two chainsaws were seized at the residences of four individuals who were not around during the search.

Another suspect, Jodel Batalon Bajo, 21, was arrested at Bgy. Calot, Bangued, Abra by joint personnel of CIDG-Abra, PNP-SAF and Bangued MPS. Seized were a GA12 shotgun without serial number, one magazine clip for GA12 shotgun and three live ammunitions for GA12 shotgun.
