THREE men including a 49-year old policeman have been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of involvement in illegal drug trafficking beyond reasonable doubt following two years of trial, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino announced yesterday.

The official identified the convicted drug trafficking personalities as police officer Adelardo Gaurano and his cohort, Ram Rebueno, 35; and Jamama Hadjonoor. The two were meted the life term for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

According to Aquino, both Gaurano and Rebueno were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by members of the PDEA Regional Office 4-A then under Director Yogi Felimon Ruiz inside a hotel in Laguna on February 16, 2016.

The two were placed under arrest after they conspired to sell 404 grams of shabu worth over P2 million to a poseur-buyer.

On the other hand, Hadjonoor was arrested after he sold about 55 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P225,000 to a poseur in Barangay Calicanto in Batangas City.

In a 9-page decision penned by Judge Dorcas P. Ferriols-Perez of the Batangas City Regional Trial Court Branch 84, Hadjonoor was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for violation of Section 5 of RA 9165.

Guarano and Rebueno were convicted last March 7 by Judge Caesar Buenagua of the Calamba City RTC Branch 37. The three were also ordered to each pay a fine of P500,000 to the government.

Aquino lauded the two courts for their decision which he said again proved the dedication of PDEA officers in testifying in court and making sure that arrested persons will be convicted to the hilt.
