SILANG, Cavite -- A village chief was gunned down while four others were hit by stray bullets at the covered court here Tuesday night.
Local police head Chief Insp. Resty Soriano identified the victim as Naldie Neri Secretario, chairman of Bgy. Yakal, who was shot dead by two unindentified gunmen at 10 p.m. Tuesday while supervising an activity in the barangay.
The suspects fled using a getaway motorcycle.
Secretario was rushed to Asia Medic Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician.
The village chief left a wife and four children.
Taken to the hospital were Lourdes Bernardino, 53, Anita Alcober, 57, Dairuz Bacnotan, 13, and Pedecio Vidal, 60, who were hit by stray bullets.
Reports said the incident occurred at 10 p.m. at the covered court of Bgy. Yakal.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was supervising an activity in the barangay when two unidentified suspects arrived and peppered him with bullets.
Investigators believed that the incident was said to be a drug-related case since prior to the recently concluded barangay and SK elections, the barangay official was linked to illegal drug trade in the said barangay.
Another possible angle in the killing is revenge due to the arrest of a certain Eric Saksak, a drug courier operating in Paliparan, Dasmariñas City and Bulihan, Silang, Cavite.
