GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija -- A 13-year-old blind girl drowned when she accidentally fell into the river while she was about to swim with her eight-year-old niece here last Tuesday.

Supt. Gerald T. Licyayo, town police commander, identified the victim as May de Guzman, of Bgy. Partida II, this town.

Rescuers recovered her body in the deep portion of the river two and a half hours after she fell into the river at 9 a.m.

Licyayo said the blind girl, accompanied by her niece Rian Andres Opalit, went to the river near their house when she accidentally slipped and fell into the water.

Rian Andres then went to their house to seek help from their neighbor but when they returned at 11:30 a.m. the victim was already dead.

Licyayo said Teresa, the victim’s mother, told them that her daughter’s death was purely accidental and that she is no longer interested in pursuing any investigation regarding her death.
