TWO persons, including a barangay councilman, were arrested by joint elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in an operation in Malapatan, Sarangani.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, a firearm and ammunition.
PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña identified the suspects as Al Tumbaga Sambaga, alias Bong Sambaga, 54, married, and a second-termer barangay kagawad in Sapu Masla, Malapatan; and Robinson Esconde Mong, 36, jobless, of Lun Padidu, Ma-lapatan.
Reports said that at around 2 a.m. the other day, joint elements of PDEA Regional Office 12 (PDEA RO12), under the direct supervision of Director Gil Cesario P. Castro, Sarangani Provincial Police Office (SPPO), Sarangani Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit, Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB)-Sarangani Province, 3rd Maneuvering Company of Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) 12, and Special Weapons Assault and Tactics (SWAT) Sarangani, implemented a search warrant against Sambaga in his residence in Purok Sumimba, Bgy. Sapu Masla, Malapatan, which led to his arrest.
Seized from Sambaga were five plastic sachets of suspected shabu (one gram) worth P7,500, a cal. Colt .45 and two magazines for cal. .45 with 11 rounds of ammunition.
Sambaga will be charged with violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), Article II of RA 9165.
Another case for violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act) will also be filed against him.
On the same day, the same law enforcement unit implemented a search warrant against Mong in Lun Padidu, Malapatan, which led to his arrest. Seized from Mong were three transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing 0.5 gram worth P3,750.
Mong will be charged with violation of Section 11 of RA 9165.
