Batangas homicide suspect arrested

CAMP Malvar, Batangas -- A 33-year-old homicide suspect was nabbed by local police in Sitio Puyo, Bgy. Sta. Clara.

Acting Batangas police director Senior Supt. Alden Bacarra Delvo identified the suspect as Efren Villantes Escarez, single, jobless, a native of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and residing in Villa Anita, of the said barangay.

He said that last February 21 at around 6:10 p.m., the accused was arrested by elements of the Batangas City Police Station Warrant Section and Intelligence Section led by Chief Insp. Leopoldo Macapagal Ferrer Jr., together with SPO2s Paulino A. Eje and Jonathan E  Librada; SPO1 Joryel B. Alo, PO3 Endrix C. Cabarles, PO2 Bernie Closa, PO1s Francis L. Olave, Christian T. Ani and Noime J. Nitro, under the direct supervision of city commander Supt. Widemar Tan Tiu, by virtue of a warrant of arrest docketed under Criminal case  No.18-23262 issued by Judge Maria Cecilia Austria-Chua of the Regional Trial Court Branch 2, of Batangas City, dated January 29, 2018.

Delvo said that based on police records, the case was filed against the suspect when he attacked and stabbed to death the victim, identified as Pedro de Castro, on Oct. 8, 2017, at 4:20 p.m.

The suspect was detained at the Batangas City police custodial facility.
