Army soldier wounded in clash with NPA rebels in Abra

A soldier was wounded in an encounter with suspected members of the New Peoples’ Army (NPA) the other
day in Sallapadan, Abra.

The identity of the wounded soldier was not yet available as of press time.
     
Reports said the encounter occurred at around 2:45 a.m. at Sitio Nagas-asan, Bgy.  Ud-udiao,
Sallapadan.
     
Initial investigation showed that elements of the Army’s 24th Infantry  Battalion of the 5th
Infantry Division (ID) were on patrol operation in the area when they encountered the undetermined
number of armed rebels belonging to  Agustin Begnalin Command, Kilusang Larangang Guerilya (KLG) North
Abra of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Party Committee (ICRC) led by Abdon Siddayao, alias Chico,
Abdul and Rim.
     
The firefight lasted for several minutes and resulted in injuries to one soldier and
undetermined number from the enemy’s side.
 
Because of the incident, the Northern Luzon Command has intensified its hot pursuit operation
against the rebel group.
