LUCENA City -- City police Drug Enforcement Unit operatives killed a suspected drug pusher during shootout at Old PNR station in Purok Camia, Bgy. 10, here.

Quezon police director Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman identified the slain suspect as Alvin Vergara, 30.

De Guzman said Vergara, who has been  jobless, is included on the city drug watchlist of newly-identified drug personalities.

Prior to the shootout, De Guzman said the DEU operatives, along with PDEA-Quezon agents led by Chief Insp. Danilo Llave, had set up a drug-bust operation at said place whose target was Vergara.

City police director Supt. Romulo Albacea said Vergara eventually took the bait and handed a plastic sachet containing 0.2 gram of suspected shabu to PO3 Pedro Wagan, who acted as poseur-buyer in exchange for a marked P500 bill.

But when Wagan was about to collar Vergara, Albacea said the suspect resisted.

“Vergara pulled out a cal. 38 revolver and opened fire but missed,” said Albacea.

He said PO3 Christian Magillano, who served as Wagan’s back-up, quickly fired back, hitting Vergara twice in the body.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered from Vergara a coin purse containing 1.4 grams of suspected shabu contained in seven small plastic sachets, drug paraphernalia, the marked P500 bill and the cal. .38 revolver he used.
