9 Reds killed, soldier hurt in Ecija clash

NINE suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed while a soldier was wounded in an encounter yesterday morning in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija.

Lt. Col. Isagani Nato, spokesman of AFP-Northern Luzon Command, said the encounter occurred at around 7:26 a.m. in Bgy. Burgos.
He said troops from the Army’s 84th Infantry Battalion received information regarding the presence of NPA rebels harassing the residents in the area.
Government forces immediately proceeded to the area and engaged the enemy in a firefight that erupted at around 9:50 a.m. that resulted in the killing of the NPA rebels and the wounding of one soldier.
One of the fatalities was identified as Joel Manangan, alias Ka Razul, leader of NPA operating in the province of Nueva Ecija.
Recoverrd at the nencounter site were nine high-powered firearms, including five M-16 rifles, an AK47, an M14 rifle and two M203 grenade launchers.
Troops also recovered eight backpacks containing subversive documents.
