THREE armed motorcycle-riding criminals were killed in sepate firefights with the police in Bulacan and Cagayan on Wednesday night, a Philippine National Police report said yesterday.
One of the fatalities was gunned down in an encounter in Bgy. Poblacion, Santa Maria, Bulacan, at around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, said Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat Jr.
The official said that the suspect exchanged fire with policemen who pursued him and a companion after they robbed 37-year-old vendor Rubylina Gumasing of her P800 cash and a cellphone.
The suspect remained unidentified as of press time. He, however, was described as about 5’10” in height, sporting multiple tattooes on his shoulder and wearing a black sando and a pair of maong jeans.
Caramat said Santa Maria policemen pursued the suspects after Gumasing reported the robbery and caught up with the slain suspect near the riverside in Bgy. Poblacion.
The suspect was killed after he traded shots with officers while his companion was able to escape on his motorcycle.
Recovered from the slain suspect were a caliber .38 revolver marked ‘Protector’ with three spent catridges and two live ammunition and two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.
In Solana, Cagayan, police encountered riding-in-tandem criminals and shot two of them dead at 8 p.m. Wednesday, said Cagayan police director Senior Supt. Warren Tolito.
Tolito said the two remained unidentified. He said the suspects were among the five armed men who were on board two motorcycles when they held up 19-year-old student Jayem Caraguian in Bgy. Gadu, Solana municipality and stole the victim’s motorcycle.
While fleeing towards the direction of Kalinga, the suspects also stole at gunpoint the motorcycle of one Christian Danao, 28, in the same area.
Tolito said after receiving the information on the two separate incidents, police set up checkpoints in the area and eventually arrested one of the suspects, Richard Culang,32, of Pinukpuk, Kalinga.
Culang’s two cohorts were killed in an ensuing gunbattle. Recovered from the suspects were a 9mm Ingram machine pistol, a cal. .38 revolver, several live ammunition and the two stolen motorcycles.
The official said that the suspects were believed to be involved in a series of armed motorcycle thefts and robbery-holdups in the municipalities of Solana, Enrile and Tuao.
