TWO jailguards and an inmate were killed when unidentified suspects onboard two motorcycles ambushed them while on their way to a court hearing yesterday morning in Cebu City.

The fatalities were identified as Prison Guard 1 Bernie Bayutas and Joel Teves, escort and driver, respectively of the van, and Jerryfer Perigrino, a high-profile inmate involved in illegal drugs.

Reports said the incident occurred at around 9 a.m. in Unit 5, Bgy. Kalunsan, Cebu City.

According to Guadalupe Police Station head Chief Insp. Edward Sanchez, the victims were on board a van of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) on their way to a court hearing when they were ambushed by two suspects onboard two motorcycles.

The victims died on the spot while the suspects fled.

It was learned that last August 4, 2018, elements of Cebu Provincial Jail recovered two medium packs of suspected shabu from the detention cell of Perigrino during their greyhound operation.
