2 Abu Sayyaf Group bandits dies, 2 others hurt in Sulu encounter

TWO notorious members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) were killed while two others were wounded in an encounter with government forces yesterday morning in Sulu.

AFP-Western Mindnao Command (Wesmincom) spokesman Lt.Col. Gerry M. Besana said the identities of the slain bandits were not yet available as of press time while the wounded were taken to Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital.

Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said the encounter occurred at 5:08 a.m. at Bgy. Lihbog Kabaw, Pang-lima Estino, Sulu.

Accordingly, elements of the 61st, 62nd and 64th Marine companies were conducting focused military operation in the area when they encountered some 100 ASG members under Radullan Sahiron, Idang Susukan and Almujer Yadah .

A firefight immediately occurred and lasted for several minutes, killing two bandits and wounding two others.

No casualty was listed on the government forces’ side.

Recovered at the encounter site were one M653 and one M14 rifle.

Troops continue to scour the area.

Westmincom commander Lt. Gen. Arnel B. dela Vega commended the troops for their successful operation.
