NINETEEN barangays in Nueva Vizcaya have been declared ‘drug-free’ by the Regional Drug Oversight
Committee following evaluation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the local police,
Police Regional Office 2 director Chief Supt.  Jose Mario Espino said yesterday.

Ten of the barangays  identified Bgys. Balzain, Kimbutan, Caralotan, Palabotan and  Kanabay
in Dupax del Sur town; Bgys. Poblacion and Kabuluan in Villaverde municipality;  Bgys. Ammoweg and
Salinsingan in Ambaguio; and Bgy. Daan in Kayapa town, were declared ‘drug cleared’.
On the other hand, Bgys. Talbek, Abaca, Banila, Sunguit, Lukidnon and Biruk in Dupax Del
Sur; Bgy. Ocapon in Villaverde; and Bgys. Pampang and Castillo Village in Kayapa were also declared
as ‘drug-free.’
Espino and PDEA Regional Office 2 director Laurefel Gabales led the ceremonies declaring the
19 barangays as free from drugs. Also in attendance were top Department of Health officials, PRO2
deputy regional director for operations Senior Supt. John Cornelius Jambora and Nueva Vizcaya police
director Senior Supt. Leumar Abugan.
According to Espino, the 19 barangays passed the requirements for either ‘drug-free’ or
‘drug-cleared’ based on parameters set by the Dangerous Drugs Board.
The official said they are also continuing their massive crackdown against illegal drug
trafficking and abuse in the entire Caga-yan Valley. “We must drive out pushers and users in our
community and we have to be inhospitable to illegal drugs,” he said.
Espino said they are also set to declare next week several barangays in the towns of Enrile
and Rizal in Cagayan as ‘drug-free’ after passing the final validation by the Regional Oversight
