CARLO Caparas is a bonafide box office hit maker who did blockbuster action films and massacre movies. He’s the one who made Kris Aquino a box office queen with “Vizconde Massaacre”. He and producer wife Donna Villa of Golden Lions Films have been hibernating for sometime. Now, we’re glad that they’re back to producing movies and the cameras are grinding once again for Carlo.
His comeback project is a new version of his unforgettable revenge story, “Angela Markado”, which was filmed by no less than National Artist Lino Brocka before starring Hilda Koronel. Carlo wrote the original komiks novel which is about a girl who was brutally raped and manhandled by five men. She later takes revenge and turns the tables on them by hunting them down one by one.
The lucky actress chosen to play the avenging “Angela Markado” this time is no other than Andi Eigenmann, who has not been assigned a new teleserye on ABS-CBN for sometime now. Her last show was still last year’s “Dyesebel”, where she played kontrabida to Anne Curtis. Her recent forays into the big screen were not so successful. Her two movies shown this year, “Tragic Theater” and “Your Place or Mine”, produced by Viva Entertainment, were both big flops. Here’s hoping Direk Carlo’s magic touch is still working and will help revive her acting career.

DENISE Laurel turns 27 on September 30. She considers it a birthday gift that she qualified as one of the 8 celebrity contestants in the new season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar”. “I started as a theatre actress who does singing and dancing in stage musicals,” she says. “That’s how I was discovered by Mr. M (Johnny Manahan of Star Magic, who brought her to ABS). But the last few years, nag-concentrate na ako sa acting. The last time I sang was in ‘ASAP’, when I turned 18 and they greeted me on my birthday in the show. So now, I’m so excited to go back to my musical theatre roots. I hope hindi pa kinakalawang ang pagkanta at pagsasayaw ko para magamit ko nang husto in my production numbers in ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’. After I took the audition, akala ko I didn’t make it, so I was so happy when they called me back and told me I made it as a finalist. I’m now very nervous but I know I will face the challenge bravely eachweekend.”
Denise is also in the soap “Nasaan Ka Nang Kailangan Kita” where she plays kontrabida to Vina Morales after she snatched Vina’s husband, Christian Vasquez. This means she’s going to be very busy as she’ll do drama in “Nasaan” and then sing and dance in “Your Face”. “I think kakayanin ko naman 'yan,” she beams. “Good luck na lang sa akin. I need to do this for my son.”
Her love son Alejandro is now four years old. She’s currently engaged to cager Solomon Mercado, to whom her son is very much attached. “I’m sure he’s the one for me, but we’re not rushing into marriage. That can wait while I’m still busy with my career.”
Who does she think is her biggest competitor? “I think it’s comedian Eric Nicolas kasi I saw kung gaano kagaling ang trabaho niya. He’s very dedicated and passionate as a performer kaya 'yung hindi siya kilala at mapapanood siya for the first time, tiyak na mapapanganga sila at hahanga sa kanya kasi hindi lang siya kumakanta kundi nagpapatawa pa.”

FABIO Ide wants to thank GMA7 for giving him his biggest break as the leading man of Ken Chan in the transerye (for transgender), “Destiny Rose”, that starts airing on Monday replacing “Healing Hearts”. He has resolved to live in the Philippines for good because he has a daughter here. He and the mom, Denise Oca (daughter of actress Melissa Mendez), are no longer together but they’re in good terms for the sake of their baby girl who Fabio is financially supporting.
“My daughter is so beautiful and I try to be a good father. My career and the businesses I put up are doing well, so thank God, life is good,” he says.
He had another non-showbiz girlfriend at the time he impregnated Denise but they’ve since called it quits. He’s now playing beautiful music with former Bb. Pilipinas Bianca Manalo, who’s now in the soap “On the Wings of Love” on ABS. How did they become close?
“We did a show abroad, sa Dubai. Napag-usapan namin ang mga ex namin. Then we went to Bali as a big group. It was there we became closer and when we got back to Manila and she went with me to Cebu for an affair I attended there. I eventually realized that I’m in love with her at naging official girlfriend ko na siya.”
What does he think of Ken Chan as “Destiny Rose?” “He’s very good, very dedicated to his craft. Credible siya as a transwoman. I play Gabriel Antonioni, his Fil-Italian penpal. I’ll make his life colorful as I will become his one true love after he became a transwoman. We’ve had a sensuality workshop para hindi kami maging embarrassed in our intimate scenes together. Okay naman. Pero wala raw kaming kissing scenes kasi afternoon soap ito.”
