TEN members of an armed group operating in Sultan Kudarat province were killed while eight others were wounded after engaging government forces in a firefight yesterday.

Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said joint military and police forces were sent out to Bgy. Bual, Isulan town, to serve a search warrant when they were fired upon by the group at 6:30 a.m. in Sitio Mantisao.

Cabunoc said troops were greeted with heavy gunfires but managed to outmaneuver the gunmen.

“The bandits were occupying fortified positions with machinegun emplacements and running trenches. They were ready to confront the security forces,” said Cabunoc.

The troops also captured one of the bandits named Abdul Magid Logioman, alias Black Moro, 41, and seized an M653 rifle.
Cabunoc said that Sgt. David Desidario of the Division Recon Company was injured but was declared out of danger in a local hospital.
He said joint operations were launched after residents of Chua, Bagumbayan town, earlier filed a resolution requesting law enforcement operation against the lawless elements rerrorizing residents in the area.
