THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) yesterday said they are expecting 91 overseas Filipino
workers (OFWs) from Kuwait to arrive last night. Public Diplomacy Executive Director Charmaine Aviquivil said the latest addition would
bring to a total of 3,229 OFWs that have been repatriated as of March 19.
The repatriation of distressed and undocumented OFWs is being shouldered by the Philippine
More OFWs are expected to arrive after the government of Kuwait granted the Philippines’
request to extend its amnesty program to allow undocumented workers to go home without penalty.
OFWs who availed of the amnesty were provided P25,000 cash by the Overseas Workers Welfare
Administration as livelihood assistance.
Of the 250,000 OFWs in Kuwait, 10,800 are already out of status many of them have escaped
from their abusive employers.
