Department of Foreign Affairs readies aid to Pinoys in typhoon-hit Saipan, Northern Marianas

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) will send a team to assist Filipinos in Saipan and other parts of Northern Marianas adversely affected by Typhoon Yutu (Rosita).

The Philippine Consulate General in Agana will deploy a team to the islands of Tinian and Rota which were also devastated by the typhoon. There are an estimated 600 Filipinos in Tinian and another 300 in Rota.

A two-man team was earlier sent to Saipan to look into the situation of some 15,000 Filipinos there and to extend relief assistance.

Consul General Marciano R. De Borja said Vice Consul Alex O. Vallespin and Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Officer Juliet S. Simbul have distributed relief assistance to at least 600 Filipinos, including those staying in temporary shelters after their homes were destroyed or damaged by the typhoon.
