DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will not run for senator in the 2019 midterm elections

“Hindi ‘yan magtakbo ng senador, hindi ‘yan magtakbo ng presidente. Maniwala ka sa akin. She’s too wise for that,” President Rodrigo Duterte  said in a press briefing after arriving from Bali, Indonesia yesterday morning.

Sara earlier said she was seeking reelection.

Asked about the plan of former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, the president said he hasn’t talked to his son “for the longest time.”

“Frankly, I haven’t talked to my son for the longest time...He has his own family, maybe he finds few opportunities for me to talk to him. Alam mo naman ako, I commute Manila-Davao frequently and only because my residence is here,” he said.

Duterte said he is waiting for his son to talk to him.

“I expect him as a son to come to me and say, “Pa gusto kong tatakbo. Kasi alam mo eh, anak ko eh,” he said.

In next year’s elections, Paolo is expected to run for congressman in Davao City’s 1st district.

Paolo resigned as Davao City vice mayor in December following a public spat with his daughter and after being tagged in the P6.4-billion worth of shabu shipment that slipped past the Bureau of Customs.

Yesterday Paolo filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Davao City 1st District representative in the 2019 elections.

Duterte was accompanied by his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio, when he filed his COC at the local Commission on Elections office on Friday.
