A police officer was killed when suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked a police station in  Madela, Quirino the other day.

Reports said at least 100 armed men swooped down on the Madela police station around 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
They came on board an Elf truck and two vans and immediately fired at the police station, injuring PO2 Jerome Cardenas, who was later declared dead upon arrival at the Madela District Hospital.
The policemen manning the station fought back, but were overwhelmed when they ran out of ammunition.
The fire fight lasted about 45 minutes and the suscpects commandeered two patrol cars of the police station -- a Hilux and a Mahindra -- and an undetermined number of long and short firearms.
The rebels also took with them SPO1 Siriban and PO1  Albano, who were later rescued alive and unhurt.
The attackers then fled towards Barangay San Pedro.
Members of the Quirino police purused the attackers and recovered of the two patrol vehicles.
