PNP nabs 6,531 illegal gamblers

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested 6,531 persons for illegal gambling as authorities pressed a nationwide vice crackdown.

This was based on the update issued yesterday by the PNP.
PNP spokesman Police Sr. Supt. Dionardo Carlos said the suspects were arrested during the anti-illegal gambling operations of the PNP from February 3, 2017 to April 9, 2017.
He said during that period, the PNP conducted 2,908 anti-illegal gambling operations nationwide.
The PNP seized P2,932,928 items and money from the bettors.
The PNP intensified their operations against illegal gambling in response to the Executive Order 13 by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Under EO13, law enforcement agencies are directed to coordinate and promptly act on requests of gambling regulatory authorities to investigate and put a stop to illegal gambling activities in their respective jurisdictions.
Earlier, the President also ordered the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office ( PCSO) to expand the operation of Small Town Lottery (STL) nationwide to generate more funds that will be usee to buy more medicines to be given free to the needy.
Complying with the order, the PCSO and PNP signed a memorandum of agreement to jointly curb illegal gambling and promote STL as the only legal numbers game in the country.
