Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agents seize P2.2-M shabu, jail 5

October 27, 2018

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency chair Director General Aaron N. Aquino yesterday announced the arrest of five known drug personalities in the countryside following a string of buy-bust operations which resulted in the confiscation of nearly P2.2 million worth of shabu.

Aquino said that one of the suspects was a notorious drug dealer in Davao City who was out on bail when he was arrested while attempting to deliver shabu inside the local Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility last October 18.

He identified the suspect as Peter Paul Ramos, a 24-year-old man who turned out to have been arrested for a drug-related offense in September 2012 but was already on bail when arrested while about to deliver around 50 grams of the so-called’ poor man’s cocaine’ to the BJMP facility in Ma-a, Davao City 3:50 p.m. on Thursday last week.

Aquino said that members of the PDEA Regional Office 1 and the local police confiscated two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing the P750,000 worth of shabu and P1,950 in cash from the suspect.

Two other suspected ‘high-value’ targets identified as Hermani Jun Echano and Antonio Remot were arrested during separate anti-narcotics raids in Camarines Norte last Wednesday and Thursday, the PDEA chair said.

Aquino said that Echano was arrested in his house in Purok 2, Barangay Camambugan in Daet, Camarines Norte which was raided by PDEA Region 5 operatives.

Seized during the raid were 13 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing about 25 grams of shabu worth P170,000 and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Another raid in Purok 2, Bgy. Gahonon in Daet last Thursday led in the arrest of Remot after officers discovered around 15 grams of shabu valued at P102,000 and assorted drug paraphernalia inside his room.

In Dumaguete City, PDEA Region VII agents arrested Jocelyn Villegas, 42, after a raid in his house in Purok Malinawon in Bgy. Talay resulted in the confiscation of eight plastic packets containing about 150 grams of suspected shabu worth P1.02 million and various drug paraphernalia.

Aquino said that PDEA Region 7 operatives also smashed a drug den in Purok Baltimar, Colon Extension, Bgy. Taclobo in Dumaguete City following a raid last Thursday.

He said that the suspected drug den operator identified as Romeo Beltran and four of his visitors were arrested after officers recovered some P204,000 worth of shabu and several drug sniffing paraphernalia during the operation.

He identified the arrested drug den visitors as Jhung Locson, Antonio Beltran, Excel Beltran and Alden Diez.

Aquino said that the suspects are now facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
