THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been directed to investigate former President Benigno Aquino III, former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, and former Budget undersecretary Mario Relampagos for their alleged involvement in the supposed wastage of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) reaching billions of pesos.
Aguirre ordered NBI Director Dante Gierran to start conducting a case-build up for possible criminal prosecution.
“The NBI, through Director Dante A. Gierran, is hereby directed and granted authority to investigate the complaint filed by Coalition for Investigation and Prosecution (CIP) represented by Greco Belgica, et. al. against former President Benigno Aquino III et. al. for malversation ,” Aguirre said in Department Order No.749.
Gierran was also required to immediately create a special task force that will lead the probe, and to submit periodic reports to Justice Undersecretary Antonio T. Kho Jr.
The CIP submitted to the Department of Justice (DoJ) documentary evidence supposedly showing how DAP, otherwise known as “pork barrel,” was mishandled.
The group sought an investigation into the alleged discrepancy of P2.6 billion from the DAP spending, and pursue cases of malversation of public funds with aggravating circumstances against Aquino, Abad and Relampagos.
