THE Department of Education (DepEd) said classes in war-torn Marawi City will begin on June 4 on the same day as the rest of public schools nationwide.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones together with Assistant Secretary for Special Projects Alfhadar Pajiji will lead today the Opening of Oplan Balik Eskwela at Amai Pakpak Central Elementary School in Marawi which coincides with the closing of Brigada  Eskwela sa Marawi.

Today marks the first anniversary of the Marawi siege.

The DepEd will assess the conditions of schools in the city devastated by war between government forces and the Islamic State-inspired Maute group last year.
