THE Commission on Elections will release the official list of candidates for the 2019 national and local elections in December.
Director James Jimenez, Comelec spokesperson, said that based on the Comelec’s calendar the official list will be released by mid-December.
“Ang calendar po natin nasa December tayo maglalabas ng official list, mga middle-December kasabay ng ating printing,” he said.
The filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) started on Thursday. Twenty-seven individuals filed COCs for senator, while 18 party-list groups filed certificates of nomination and certificates of acceptance of nomination on that day.
Comelec earlier announced that the Election Period will start from January 13, 2019 to June 12, 2019. Election Day will be held on May 13, 2019.
Jimenez said the first day of filing COCs went orderly as no untoward incident was reported.
“It looks like maganda po ‘yung nangyari kahapon, very successful. Medyo very orderly ‘yung flow ng mga tao, walang kaguluhan na naganap. Sa tingin ko medyo itutuloy muna natin ‘yung ginawa kahapon, tingnan natin kung may iimprove pa tayo. Sa ngayon tingin ko satisfied naman pati ‘yung mismong nagfile,” he said.
Those who submitted their certificates of candidacy on the first day of filing included Senator “Koko” Pimentel, Freddie Aguilar, Samira Gutoc-Tomawis, Neri Colmenares, Willy Ong cardiologist Melchor Chavez, Abner Afuang, Ibrahim Albani, Gerald Arcega and Danilo Roleda.
There were also “colorful” characters among those that filed COCs on Thursday. They include Daniel Magtira, who claimed to be Kris Aquino’s ex-husband; Anson Tuana, who claimed to be Mocha Uson’s ex-boyfriend; Salam Tagean, who presented himself as king pf Maharlika; Rolando Merano, who said the World Bank convinced him to run; Christian Castro, who wants to give one peso to every needy Filipino; Carmelo Carreo, who submitted a wrong form; and Eric Negapatan, who claimed winning the West Philippine Sea case for the country.
