Lapeña to crooks: I’ll catch up with you

September 10, 2018

BUREAU of Customs (BoC) Commissioner Isidro Lapeña yesterday warned bureau officials and employees in cahoots with waterfront “players” that he would eventually “catch up” with all of them and bring them all to court.

At the bureau’s regular flag-raising ceremony, the customs chief urged his subordinates to stop conniving with smugglers or end up being slapped with administrative and criminal cases.

Lapeña made it known that he is aware that waterfront “players,” a euphemism for “smugglers,” continue to hold “talks” with bureau officials and employees and continue with their smuggling activities.

“Yung mga hindi pa humihinto dyan, for all you know, any time, kayo tatamaan din, dahil mayroon pa rin kausap ang mga players from within us. And you will see that I will soon catch up with you,” the commissioner said.

Aside from administrative cases and their removal from their posts, Lapeña has also filed criminal charges against 17 customs officials and employees found in cahoots with smugglers at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) and at the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT), a sub-port of Cagayan de Oro, located in Lanao del Norte.

Lapeña reminded that he promptly acts with all information he received, from both outside and inside the bureau, and which all resulted to at least three major successful apprehension of smuggling attempts.
