Houses for soldiers, cops a must — solon

THE House of Representatives has still time to amend the proposed 2019 national budget and allocate funds for housing projects for uniformed personnel.

This is according to Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas as he expressed support for the initiative of President Duterte to provide better housing projects for the military and police forces.

During the budget deliberations, it was Vargas who defended the budget of several housing agencies like National Housing Authority (NHA).

Earlier, President Duterte met with House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and requested Congress to include in the 2019 national budget allocations for housing projects that would benefit members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.

According to Vargas, it is only proper for the government to provide the military and police personnel decent living and a home they can enjoy given their noble job of ensuring the security and peace and order in the country.
