House reprimands lawmaker in NAIA security brouhaha

THE House of Representatives yesterday reprimanded controversial ACTS OFWs Rep. John Bertiz, as a result of his uncalled for behavior on the premises of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Voting 159-1 with three abstentions, the Lower Chamber adopted the motion raised by Minority Leader Danilo Suarez.

“Pursuant to Section 140 of the Rules of the House, Representative Bertiz is hereby reprimanded,” Deputy Speaker Linabelle Ruth Villarica, the presiding chairman, declared.

Following the privilege speech of Bertiz, Suarez moved to reprimand him, saying that the Minority bloc does not condone his action.

Bertiz, after a few days in hospital, faced his colleagues in the House of Representatives and apologized through privilege speech.

He admitted his fault and mistake when he refused to undergo security procedures upon entering Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“Patawad po dahil bilang isang lingkod-bayan, hindi ako naging ehemplo ng tuwid at magandang asal,” Bertiz said.

The solon also said that he is ready to face consequences from the House of Representatives.
