MEMBERS of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday morning overran a New People’s Army encampment in Nagtipunan, Quirino.

The authorities found a cache of rebel weapons, ammunition and police uniforms being used by the rebels to pose as cops each time they attack government targets in the region, PRO2 director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

Espino said members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 2 led by Senior Insp. Anthony Ayungo and the Charlie company of the Army’s 86th Infantry Battalion headed by 1Lt. Jojiet Angeles were conducting a joint combat patrol in Bgy. Disimungal, Sitio Pulang Lupa in Nagtipunan, when they found the guerrilla base around 5 a.m.

Recovered in the NPA encampment were two M-14 rifles, five M-16 automatic rifles, one upper receiver of an M-16, assorted live ammunition, 14 pairs of combat boots and 15 sets of PNP uniforms.
