STARTING March 25, all jails under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) will be
placed under full alert status in observance of the Holy Week.
BJMP chief Director Deogracias Tapayan said this is to ensure orderly and secure jail
operations nationwide in anticipation of the large volume of visitors during the week-long break.
“We are expecting not only large volume of jail visitors but also considerable movement of
our inmates as they take part in various Lenten-related activities in the facilities,” Tapayan
The BJMP chief also urged wardens and other jail officials to always be on alert for any
jail incidents during the influx of visitors.
“The BJMP is prepared this coming Holy Week, as we have taken all the necessary steps for
a peaceful commemoration of the Lenten Season,” Tapayan stressed.
Under full alert status, all personnel are on post and no leave privileges will be allowed
for one week.
