AFP building up case vs anti-DU30 plotters

September 25, 2018

AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said they are part of other government agencies tasked to look for strong evidence against those behind the so-called Red October move.

Red October is a plan allegedly led by the communists to destabilize the Duterte administration.

Earlier, the President revealed that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), New Peoples Army (NPA)-National Democratic Front (NDF) and the group of Sen. Antonio Trillanes were recruiting members or forces to carry out the plan to unseat him.

Arevalo said the government had formed a National Task Force for Ending Insurgency that aimed to unite government agencies in the effort to end the problems that serve as the root of insurgency in the country.

These problems include poverty and unemployment.

NPA leaders arrested

As part of the effort to foil the “Red October” plot government forces yesterday raided the safehouse of top NPA leaders in Teresa, Rizal.

The operation resulted in the arrest of eight persons and recovery of highpowered firearms believed to be intended for the Red October plot.

Philippine Army’s 202nd Infantry Battalion Commander Brig. Gen. Marcelo Burgos said Joint elements of the Philippine Army’s 80th Infantry Battalion and the National Bureau of Investigation at around 7:30 a.m. served a search warrant against Armando Lazarte alias Pat/Romano, Secretary of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Military Area 4A, and Tirso Alcantara alias Bart, the former Commander of the NPA Terrorists’ Regional Yunit Guerilla at Coral Farm, located at Sitio Dalig, Teresa Rizal.

The operation resulted in the recovery of four M653 baby armalite rifles, one M203 Grenade Launcher, five U.S. made 12-gauge shotguns, one caliber .45 pistol, one caliber .38 revolver, one 9mm KG3 machine pistol, six units of two-way radios, two grenades, eight cellphones, enemy documents and several war materiel and weapons system accessories.

Among those arrested was Ki Be E alias Lily Ong, owner of the 6-hectare farm,

Burgos said the presence of top NPA leaders and the proximity of Teresa town to Manila are indicators that the threat of “Red October”cannot be downplayed and that the plotters are just waiting for an opportunity to execute their plans.
