A 48-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead by a gunman Thursday afternoon in Caloocan City.

Renato de Guzman, of 50 Malolos Avenue, Bgy. 140, Bagong Barrio, sustained gunshot wounds in the head, killing him instantly. The suspect, whose head was wrapped with a towel, immediately fled on foot after the killing.

Police said De Guzman was waiting for a passenger ride at the corner of Malvar and Philippian Streets, Bgy. 143, Bagong Barrio, at around 4 p.m. when the suspect, armed with undetermined caliber of firearm, appeared and treacherously shot him repeatedly in the head.

Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), led by Senior Insp. Sonny Boy Tepace, responded. While processing the crime scene, the victim’s sister Gina Castillo, together with her relatives, arrived and stopped the course of their ongoing investigation.

Castillo said they are no longer interested to pursue the investigation and willing to execute an affidavit of waiver indicating their disinterest in solving the crime.
However, investigators said they will still conduct a follow-up operation to determine the motive behind the killing and to identify and arrest the perpetrator.
