Rep. Arroyo leads medical mission for Manileños

Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday led the medical outreach mission of  late Kabayan party-list Rep. Ciriaco Calalang in Manila.

The former president was joined by Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Manila Rep. Edward Maceda, more than 20 doctors, health professionals and volunteers.

The Kabayan party-list conducted free legal consultation  for several hundred families especially the elders.

Calalang died after suffering massive stroke. He served as representative of Kabayan party-list for only eight months.

In an interview, Arroyo said she wanted Calalang to be remembered with his legacy. She added that Calalang is one of the authors of Department of Disaster Reduction (DDR) Bill which will be approved on third reading soon.

“Pag-uusapan natin ang kanyang legislation, isa siya sa principal authors ng disaster management bill which is a priority agenda of President Duterte. Mapapasa na sya sa on third reading sa House at sa Senate, lalabas na daw sa committee pagbalik namin after Halloween break. Yan ang legacy nya na kahit walong buwan lang siya sa Kongreso, meron naman siyang batas na importante,” Arroyo said.

The medical mission benefited some 1,000 residents of Barangay 513 Zone 51, 4th District, Sampaloc, Manila, and was done in cooperation with the Department of Health, Lourdes Hospital and lawyers from the barangay.
