PNP-DEG, PDEA agents smash Taguig shabu warehouse

October 15, 2018

A TOWNHOUSE in Taguig City which was believed  used as a drug storage facility by a group of Chinese drug smugglers was raided yesterday by combined agents of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Journal Group learned.

However, members of the PNP-DEG and the PDEA National Capital Region Office and the Taguig City Police failed to arrest the persons operating the warehouse at No. 55 Chives Street, Mahogany Place 3, Taguig City.

Amid suspicions that the place could have been used to store around 100 kilograms of suspected shabu worth P680 million, anti-narcotics agents led by Senior Inspector Jonathan Mostoles responded to a request from the owner of the unit to search the place.

According to PNP-DEG director Chief Superintendent Albert Ignatius D. Ferro, the unit owner leased the place to a group of Chinese nationals led by one ‘Tek Kei Long’ for P63,000 a month which was abandoned without informing them. The owner said that when they opened the front door of the townhouse at around 8 a.m., they noticed several transparent plastic sachets which contained white crystalline substances, all scattered in the living room.

The owner immediately called the assistance of the PNP-DEG. In turn, Ferro sent the group of Mostoles who later found several pieces of large transparent plastic packets with ziplocks, all containing suspected shabu placed in one big carton box in the area.

Ferro said that other paraphernalia believed being used to repack the shabu were also recovered during the search.

According to the PNP-DEG director, the townhouse was leased starting last January. However, a copy of the lease contract showed that it was only signed last June 6.

“We’re still conducting a proper inventory of the recovered pieces of drug and non-drug evidence in the area,” Ferro said.

The official said they are looking into the possibility that the drugs may have been smuggled abroad but repackaged at the raided townhouse before being distributed in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
