Pedicab driver robs passenger, is shot dead

AUTHORITIES shot and killed a pedicab driver who earlier robbed his passenger of his belongings shortly after midnight yesterday in Caloocan City.

SPO4 Wyrlo Gatoc of Northern Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) identified the slain suspect as certain alias “Saray”, about 30 to 35 years old, who died on the spot from bullet wounds in the body.

Earlier, James Lucero, 37, of Bgy. Tugatog, was on board a pedicab driven by the suspect on his way home when the latter, armed with caliber .38 revolver, announced a holdup upon reaching Salmon St., Bgy. 8, and divested the victim of his belongings.

The victim was able to seek assistance from elements of CIDG who were conducting “Oplan Pagtugis, Salikop”  near the area.

At 12:15 a.m., CIDG personnel led by Senior Insp. Jayson Quijana chanced upon the suspect along Salmon Street but instead of surrendering, he pulled out his handgun and fired at pursuing policemen.

A brief exchange of gunfire ensued until the victim was hit in the body, killing him instantly.

Police recovered from the slain suspect a caliber .38 revolver, seven heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing undetermined quantity of shabu and a plastic sachet with dried marijuana leaves.
