AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency seized nearly P700,000 worth of the designer drug called ‘ecstasy’ and cocaine in a buy-bust operation inside a Mandaluyong City condominium, PDEA chair Director General Aaron N. Aquino announced yesterday.

The sting also led to the arrest of suspected ecstasy and cocaine retailer and supplier identified as Lester Almalbez, 35, of Unit 410 Prince-ville Condominium, Mandaluyong City, and Herald Peñaflor, 26.

Aquino said members of the PDEA Special Enforcement Service headed by Director Levi Ortiz arrested the duo during the sting inside Prince-ville Condominium at 9 p.m. yesterday.

Confiscated during the operation were liquid ecstasy placed inside 20 energy drink bottles and 1.6 liters of liquid ecstasy with an estimated street value of P480,000, 70 pieces of ecstasy tablet worth P46,000, and six packs of cocaine worth P140,000.

“We cannot discount the possibility that a new variety of ecstasy which is blended with cocaine is doing the rounds in bars and clubs. You could imagine its potency compared to the other mainstream drugs,” Aquino said in the aftermath of the raid.

The official said he has ordered an intensified intelligence-gathering to identify and arrest more suspects involved in the new trend in illegal drug trafficking.

Cases for violation of Section 5 (sale of dangerous drugs), and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the two suspects who are now being held at the PDEA detention facility in Quezon City.

In Quezon City, QCPD director Chief Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday announced the arrest of two suspected big-time drug traffickers and the confiscation of P100,000 worth of marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine.

Eleazar identified the suspects as Merhan Jahiron, 28, sales assistant, of 80-D K9 St., Bgy. East Kamias; and Jovan Cariño, 20, of 1066A Vicente Cruz St., Bgy. 475, Zone 47, Sampaloc, Manila.

The official told National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Oscar D. Albayalde that the two were arrested by members of the QCPD Drug Enforcement Unit headed by Chief Insp. Ferdinand Mendoza, the QCPD Station 11 headed by Supt. Igmedio Bernaldez and the PDEA National Capital Region Office headed by Director Ismael Fajardo Jr.

Eleazar said the operation was an offshoot of a previous anti-drug operation on Timog Avenue on Dec. 31, 2017, which resulted in the arrest of four suspects, including a certain Nina Recio, a former live-in partner of Raul Antonio Cisneros, a retired United States Air Force intelligence officer who was arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Taguig City Police in September 2016 which led to the recovery of some P1 million worth of party drugs.

The official said they have reports that the suspects use social media in their illegal drug activities with payments deposited in the bank accounts of suspected drug lords.

Eleazar said the two were arrested at 10:30 p.m. yesterday in a gasoline station on E. Rodriquez Sr. Avenue corner D. Tuazon St., Bgy. Doña Josefa, QC.

Confiscated from the two were four plastic sachets of Kush or high grade marijuana being grown in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, 21 ecstasy tablets and two self-sealing plastic bags containing P100,000 worth of cocaine.

All suspects will be charged for violation of RA 9165. With Jun I. Legaspi, Melnie Ragasa-Jimena &Arlene Rivera
