JUST because of a lighter, a canteen owner was stabbed and seriously wounded by his angry neighbor in Paco, Manila, the other night. The victim landed in a hospital and the suspect in jail.

Melvin Rempis, 42, of 1735-C Zamora St., Paco, Manila, landed in a hospital while the suspect, identified as Renefer Adobe, 40, a draftsman, of 1722 Zamora St., was arrested.

Supt. Aquino Olivar, chief of the Manila Police District-Station 10, said the incident took place at 6:45 p.m. right inside the victim’s home.

It was learned that at around 6 p.m., the suspect went to the victim’s house and borrowed a lighter to lit a cigarette.

After having been told by the victim that he had no lighter, the suspect left. About an hour later, the suspect returned and again borrowed a lighter.

This time around, it was the victim’s mother who told him they had no lighter and then told him to leave.

The suspect got upset and pushed the woman, angering the victim, who rushed to the scene and also pushed the suspect.

The suspect stood up, ran back to his home, took a knife and with it stabbed the victim before he dashed out and went home.

The victim was rushed to the hospital while the suspect got arrested later by operatives from the Peñafrancia Police Community Precinct (PCP).

Police filed charges of frustrated homicide against the suspect.
