MPD cop survives ambush

A Manila policeman cheated death when unidentified man ambushed him the other night while he was driving along A. Mabini Street in Malate, Manila.

PO2 John Taruc, 51, assigned at the Station Drug Enforcement Team of the MPD-Station 9, fortunately survived the attack and was even able to drive himself to the Manila Doctors’ Hospital. He sustained injuries caused by a shattered  glass that hit him in different parts of the body.

The incident was said to have occurred at around 6:30 p.m. while the cop was inside his vehicle, a black Toyota Avanza (VV-1422 .

Supt. Robert Domingo, station commander, said the unidentified gunman was armed with a .40-caliber pistol and missed the victim.

Police suspected that the incident may have something to do with PO2 Taruc’s job against illegal drug activities.
