METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danny Lim led the demolition of two barangay
halls built on top of sidewalks in Manila after barangay chairmen defied the agency’s order to remove
them.

“They promised to demolish their structures when we visited here a few days ago, but they are
still here. They gave us no choice, but push for the demolition,” Lim said during the clearing
operations in Bgy. 643, Zone 66 and Bgy. 641, Zone 66.

Two barangay captains in the area were given 15 days to demolish their respective halls that
have been causing traffic obstruction but they apparently ignored the agency’s order despite repeated
warnings.

Rosadelia Paragas, chairperson of Bgy. 643, said that they waited for the MMDA workers to
destroy their barangay halls since they do not have enough persons aside from lack of construction
equipment.

Paragas said they vacated the barangay hall immediately after she had talked with Lim during
his first visit in their barangay.

Edmund Gumogda, chairman of Bgy. 641, earlier appealed to Lim to give him more time before
removing their barangay hall but the agency ignored him and proceed with the demolition of the
structure.
