A jobless man who tried to steal a fighting cock from a game fowl breeder landed in jail after the victim caught him running away while carrying two of his roosters before dawn yesterday in Malabon City.

Police recovered from James Carl Parreño, 24, of 203 Hernandez St. Bgy. Catmon a fighting cock and a bantam chicken worth P4,500 when responding barangay watchmen cornered the suspect after a brief chase along Bernardo Street, Bgy. Baritan.

Malabon police investigators SPO1 Rolando Hernando and PO3 Romeo Germinal said victim Ignacio Villegas III, 44, of 16-A Bernardo Street, Bgy. Baritan was awakened at around 3 a.m. when he heard a noise coming from the chicken cage outside his house.

When he went outside, the suspect immediately ran away carrying only two of his roosters, prompting him to seek the assistance of roving barangay watchmen.

A case of theft was filed by police against Parreño before the Malabon City Prosecutors Office.
