A senior citizen was stabbed dead by a family of four  after a heated altercation over gambling at a wake in Marikina City the other night.

In a report submitted to Marikina Police chief, Senior Supt. Roger Quesada identified the victim as Alfredo Santos, 64, construction worker, of Bgy. Marikina Heights, Marikina City.

Santos was pronounced dead upon arrival at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMM) due to stab wounds in different parts of the body.

The suspects, identified as Jerry Matre Sr., 48, construction worker; his two sons Jerry Matre Jr., 27, electrician, and Jestoni, 24, private employee; and another relative, one John Jarlego, 44, butcher, were immediately nabbed by responding policemen.

Investigation showed that Matre Sr. and his two sons were playing card game along with the victim  at  a wake in Purok 4, Apitong St., Marikina Heights, at around 8:30 p.m.

Minutes later, Santos and Matre Jr., reportedly engaged in an argument after the latter allegedly refused to give Santos his bet money.

Santos kicked Matre Jr. in the body when he was about to leave the area but  they were pacified by other residents. The victim then left and joined a drinking session with another group of men near the wake.

After consuming several bottles of beer, the victim went home and took a bladed weapon.

He immediately went back to the wake and challenged the suspects into a fight. However, the four suspects mauled him.

Police said Matre Jr. was able to get the bladed weapon from the victim and stabbed him  repeatedly in the body.

The four suspects are now detained at Marikina City Police Station, facing murder charges.
