‘Junjun’ Binay files CoC for Makati mayor

October 16, 2018

FORMER Makati City Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay who decided to challenge his sister incumbent Mayor Abby Binay for the city’s top post filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) yesterday morning.

Junjun was accompanied by his sister, Senator Nancy Binay and hundreds of supporters, in filing his CoC before the local Comelec office at 8:20 a.m. under the banner of Una ang Makati, the newly-formed local party.

Junjun said he decided to run against his sister to heed the call of Makati residents and majority of barangay officials who wanted him to regain the city’s top post.

The former mayor said he is confident of winning the city’s mayoralty since 13 city councilors who turned their back on the incumbent mayor pledged their support on him.

He clarified in his speech that his decision to run against his sister for the city’s top post was not for self-interest but for his dedication to provide quality service to the people of Makati.

“Marami pong humihikayat sa akin na tumakbo muli bilang alkalde ng lungsod mula po sa iba’t ibang sektor at lider ng komunidad dahil hinahanap nila ang nakasanayang Binay brand of service na pangangasiwa ko dati at wala naman pong dahilan para ’di ako puwedeng tumakbo, lalo na’t hindi pa po final and executory ang kautusan habang ibinasura naman po ng Court of Appeals noong Mayo ang perpetual disqualification ko na inilabas ng Ombudsman,” Junjun said in his speech.

It can be recalled that in 2015, the Office of the Ombudsman ordered the dismissal and perpetual disqualification from service of Junjun Binay, who was then Makati mayor, over the controversial Makati parking building.
