Japanese ambushed, critical

A Japanese national is now in critical condition after being ambushed by riding-in- tandem suspects while aboard a pedicab in Malate, Manila the other night.                        

The victim was identified through his driver’s license and other identification cards as Masato Dobashe Ogushi, 67, of No. 5 Zircon St., Roysie Estate, Naga Road,  Las Piñas City and, at the time of the ambush, billeted at Le Mirage Condominium on Mabini Street in Malate.                                                        

The Manila Police District-General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS) is looking into the incident that took place at 11:45 p.m. in front of the Ambassador Hotel on Mabini Street.                                                                          

The victim was said to be on board a pedicab that he hailed from his condominium and on his way to the nearby Pan Pacific Hotel when the suspects, then riding a Mio Sport motorcycle, drove alongside and shot the victim.                            Witnesses failed to give any description since the suspects were wearing helmets and bonnets.                                                                             

The victim was brought by concerned citizens to the nearest hospital to no avail.

Meanwhile, police said an investigation is underway to establish the identities of the suspects and the motive behind the ambush.
