Good Samaritan cop assaulted by drunk security guard

AN off-duty police officer was assaulted and almost got shot by a drunk security guard whom he tried to help after figuring a road accident Sunday night in Marikina City. 

Eastern Police District director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba identified the police as PO1 Paul Evaristo, 27, assigned at the Tactical Motorcycle Unit (TMRU) of the Marikina Police, and resident of No 9 Manti St., New Marketville, Bgy .Sto Nino, Marikina City.

According to SPO3 Fidel Draculan and SPO2 Charles Pacquing, Evaristo was driving home with his wife and mother in-law on their way home and traversing J.P. Laurel St., in Vista Valley, Bgy. Sto Nino, at around 9 p.m. when they saw suspect Moreno Saycon, 23, a security guard, and resident of No. 77 Old Lavander St., Bgy. Concepcion Uno Dos, Marikina City, on a wayward motorcycle ahead of them.

After a while, they saw the motorcycle ram a gate of an establishment prompting Evaristo to help the suspect who fell on the ground.

The suspect, who was drunk, was told by Evaristo to stay put and wait for a medical rescue. However, the suspect got irked, drew his gun and aimed it at the victim. But before the suspect could pull the trigger, Evaristo quickly and grabbed the gun from the suspect.

He immediately placed the suspect under arrest and seized the .9mm Beretta pistol with six bullets.

The suspect is now facing charges of attempted homicide and Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunitions.
