Fake dentist arrested in Batangas

CAMP Malvar, Batangas -- A 63-year-old retired Navy man was arrested on Tuesday by police
operatives for illegal dental practice during an entrapment in his residence in Bgy. Gasang, Mabini
town, provincial PIO chief Insp. Hazel P. Luma-ang Suarez said.

Local police director Senior Supt. Alden Bacarra Delvo identified the arrested person for
violation of Sec. 33(a), Article 5 of Republic Act 9484 (Dental Code of Ethics) as Leopoldo
Escalona Mañibo, a retired Navy personnel residing in Bgy. Gasang, Mabini, Batangas.

Case officer SPO1 Antonio Magsino Jr. said that at around 4:15 p.m. on March 13, elements
of the Mabini Municipal Police Station led by its commander Chief Insp. Randy C. Oliquino, together
with the Philippine Dental Association, Batangas Chapter headed by its president, Dra. Edna Bermas,
and Dr. Francis Abrahan, chairman, launched an entrapment operation against the suspect.
The fake dentist was caught in the act engaging in the illegal practice of dentistry as he
has no certificate of registration and professional identification card, said Oliquino.
The team recovered at the suspect’s residence 60 pontic cartridges and loose pontics, 24
impression trays, 17 pink wax acrylics, 12 preformed retainers, five dentures for polishing, three
castone, three plasters of Paris, two retainers for installation, three wax carvers, three wax, two
articulators, two orthopliers, die stone, vice grip, steel cutter, knot adjuster, bench grinder,
bench polisher, soldering instrument, surveyor, carpenter hammer, caliper, stainless tray, alcohol
torch, wire clap roll, bone rongeour, elevator and hatchet.
Inventory of evidence confiscated was conducted in the presence of the suspect and a GMA 7
media practitioner.
Documents are being prepared for the filing of appropriate charges against the suspect, who

was detained at the police station lock-up cell.
